Zambia: The people of the Chikoti village have called on the government of the district to construct more classrooms in the village school. The residents have announced that having two more classroom blocks will help the school accommodate more students.
The Luwingu District administration had previously constructed a 1 by four classroom block, which, the residents is not adequate to accommodate the students in the communities. The officials have shared that it is important for the members of the administration to understand the needs of the community.
The previous classroom block had been built with the help of the Constituency Dveelopment Fund. However, this space is not enough to accommodate the students from Class 8th to Class 12th which means school has to refuse student admissions.
The officials have shared hat it is important for the members of the community to make sure that the education facilities are made available to all students.
The government of Zambia has announced the Free Education Policy, with the aim of providing students from vulnerable homes the opportunity to access education. Many families have been encouraged by the government’s initiatives but the space in the school premises is not promising.
As such, the resident spokesperson of the Chikoti village has urged the government to take measures to address the situation. The officials have shared that it is important for the school premesis to have enough room to accommodate students.
The officials have also confirmed that the existing classes at the Chikoti Day School and Chikoti Secondary School have been handling students above their capacity. The construction of the new classroom blocks will be helpful to bring and accommodate more students.
The officials have shared that the teachers have been handling more  than 50 students in a single class. The members of the community said that the strength of a single class is becoming unmanageable as teachers will not be able to pay individual attention to students in such packed classes.
As such, two more classroom blocks with 4 classrooms each will go a long way in increasing accommodation capacity.
