The City of Cape Town is ready to host the first ever Mayor’s Craft Market of the year. The popular market is returning to the Cape Town Civic Centre next week from Thursday, Feb 27, 2025 to Friday, Feb 28, 2025. The market sells, locally handmade and pre-packaged goods that will be for sale on the concourse level of the Cape Town Civic Centre.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Corporate Services – Alderman Theresa Uys said that she is quite excited to welcome the crafters, who are participating in this year’s first market.
She mentioned that last year they had 44 crafters and the City of Cape Staff to came out in large numbers to connect with and support these artisans. The city market is a powerful platform for promoting social cohesion and generating income to support their families and building their small businesses.
Moreover, the support received over the years has been greatly appreciated and they are looking forward to visit each stand next week.
As per the sources, the Mayor’s Craft Market is considered as a part of the Mayor’s Skills Development and Poverty Alleviation Programme. The market offers registered vendors a free opportunities to sell their goods officially to the staff of the City of Cape Town.
The vendors of the market and the members of the public will be visiting the Civic Centre. The market is flashing a great impact on the local livelihoods, since its first run in September 2010, and has been profound.
Notably, the products that will be sold in the Mayor’s Craft Market will include pillows, duvets, succulent pot plants, savouries, underwear, leather hand bags and shoes, jewellery, smoked mackerel, ladies and kiddies dresses, decoupage table cloths and many more.
Last year, the Mayor’s Craft Market welcomed over 40 traders will display and sell their goods over the three-day market. It is a powerful platform for promoting economic opportunity and social cohesion that aligned with the vision of the City of Cape Town for ‘A City of Hope for All’.
The 2024 market was arranged as a part of the Mayor’s official Skills Development and Poverty Alleviation Programme that offered registered vendors with a free opportunity to sell their goods to the city staff as well as members of the public visiting at the CT Civic Centre.
