South Africa: Cape Town Air Access welcomed inaugural flights from Norse Atlantic Airways in Cape Town. CTAA proudly celebrated the arrival of the direct flights between Cape Town International Airport (CPT) and London Gatwick Airport (LGW).
Cape Town Air Access is powered by Wesgro, which is the official tourism, trade and investment promotion agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape, doing the marketing for the destination at global level.
The seasonal service, operated on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner which will run three times per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, until the end of April 2025.
Reportedly, the new direct flights from the Norse Atlantic Airways will boost the weekly international connections between Cape Town and the United Kingdom to thirty-one, during the upcoming 2024-25 IATA Winter season that coincides with the summer season of South Africa.
The new route strengthens the connectivity of Cape Town with the United Kingdom. However, the two-way passenger traffic has grew by 54% in city’s top international market, as recorded last year.
Furthermore, the enhanced connectivity between the two regions will not only benefit the travellers but will also stimulate the economic growth. It will also create job opportunities in the tourism industry of Cape Town.
CEO of Wesgro and the official Spokesperson for Cape Town Air Access, commented on the auspicious occasion and said that CTAA is committed to expand the network and build strategic partnerships that strengthen the regional connectivity and drives economic growth.
She stated further that with the arrival of Norse Atlantic Airways the direct flights to London Gatwick, Cape Town and the Western Cape is looking forward to welcome an increasing number of visitors, which will reinforce their status as a premier global destination.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Growth – Alderman James Vos said that they are thrilled to welcome Norse Airlines to Cape Town, as it strengthens the links of the city with the UK and Europe, which will create new economic opportunities.
He added further to his statement that the partnership aligns perfectly with the five-point plan of the City of Cape Town to boost the visitor economy by increasing flights, cruise arrivals and events to benefit the communities.
Alderman Vos mentioned that with each flight, the tourism bring visitors and sustain jobs by driving economic value, such as the 344 passengers that represent an estimated R2.1 million in tourism, while spending per 100 travellers.
