Dominica International Airport’s construction work is progressing well and the Director General of the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) – Anthony Whittier is satisfied with the work.
Last week, the ECCAA Director General – Anthony Whittier visited the construction site of the International Airport and said that so far Dominica has been fulfilling the expectations that people demand from this project.
Whittier explained that what they do is to meet the detailed design of the various schematics and flows to advise on meeting the international standards because of the new bill. The Commonwealth of Dominica is delivering on expectations to meet the international standards and exceeds international standards.
According to Whittier, the International Airport of Dominica will be the first in the region to meet all the international standards. He added that he wishes to stay with project till end as everything is being done to meet those standards. He also explained that they are committed to the project and will ensure that they work side by side with all the stakeholders to ensure that it is delivered properly.
This is one of the critical areas to discuss, to ensure that the success of the International Airport was centred around the future expansion capability. He affirmed that he is satisfied with the discussion held with the project manager related to this.
When it comes to meeting international standards, the team is confident that they don’t see any difficulties. While speaking to the project manager, they talked about the expansion of the project, which needs to be assured by the acquisition.
Project’s footprint extends the way beyond what is actually required, as they apparently have enough room for any possible expansion.
The new Dominica International Airport is being constructed in Wesley and will replace the Douglas-Charles Airport, with a longer runway for wide-body jets. The airport aims to get completed by 2027 and will boost the connectivity, with its current construction progressing on its terminal, runway and facilities to handle international travel.
