KwaZulu Natal: A 43 year old man who sought to attack his mother was arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) yesterday on Monday.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Officers were contacted by the man’s family at 13:09. According to the caller; the suspect had been verbally and physically abusing his mother for years. He stole valuables from their Mountview – KZN residence, which were sold to support his drug addiction.
On Thursday last week, he assaulted his 83 year old mother and threatened to stab her with a kitchen knife after she refused to provide him with finance to purchase drugs. Family members who were visiting intervened. Fed up with the abuse, the elderly female registered a criminal case at the Verulam SAPS.
Reaction Officers contacted the Investigating Officer, who confirmed that the suspect was being sought for arrest. His family provided Officers with a recent photograph of the wanted man.
RUSA Members patrolled the Verulam CBD and spotted the suspect on Todd Street at 14:09. He attempted to flee but was immediately apprehended and placed under arrest.
He was detained at the Verulam SAPS.
Residents of the area are in deep shock after hearing the news, and some are suggesting Reaction Unit South Africa officers send that man to Rehab as drugs are available all around available, even in prison.
One of the local women commented, “43 year old drug addict such a sad story for the 83 year old mother. The family needs to find a solution ASAP before something tragic happens.”
“He needs to go for help, not to be left free to go back to his poor mom; lots of parents live in fear due to child abuse, drugs etc. Parents’ love is mistaken for weakness, so rotten kids thrive on this,” said another citizen.
Moreover, people are feeling sorry for their parents, as one user wrote, “So sorry for his mom and grandmother. The people in the prison have their own courts and judge. He will receive his punishment.”
