South Africa: A 30 year old man was shot in the neck on Saturday in the afternoon hours of the day. The incident happened along the R102 in Verulam – KZN.
The firing was seen by the people of Verulam who were travelling on the road. The officials have shared that Verulam District and especially the road in question has been affected by these incidents for several months.
The whole of previous year has been littered with various incidents, including robberies, abduction and more. All these incidents have interestingly centered majorly around the R102 road.
The recent incident is suspected to be connected to a drug cartel operating in the region. The officials of the Reaction Unit have shared that it is important for the community to keep the authorities informed.
The officials reported that a passerby contacted the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre after witnessing the incident. The passerby said that occupants of a white Toyota Hilux double cab opened fire on the male victim.
Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival located the injured male in a dense bush. He sustained a gunshot wound to his neck. The man who had called the officers informed Reaction Officers that he was a drug peddler.
He had allegedly fled with the last consignment of Heroine intended for sale. After this, the employer of the victim took the matter into his own hands and shared that they had employed a henchman.
Henchmen employed by the Drug Dealer spotted him along the R102 and opened fire on him this afternoon. The murder has been termed as a means of retribution from the drug boss.
The victim has been taken to the hospital for treatment after the shooting incident. The officials have shared that the members of the community have been sharing their views on the incident.
