Gaborone City hosts 1-day workshop for social workers

Gaborone City Council (GCC) through the Department of Social and Community Development hosted a workshop at Fairgrounds Holdings to train social workers on court etiquette

Botswana: Gaborone City Council (GCC) through the Department of Social and Community Development hosted a workshop at Fairgrounds Holdings to train social workers on court etiquette. In any children-related court cases that are currently in local courts, social welfare officers play an important role.

The government of Botswana has been working hard to make sure that children in the various communities. The officials have shared that it is important for the children to know that they can report any and all forms of abusee.

The officials have shared several images from the workshop on their social media. They are also happy to note that several social workers made it to the workshop to learn more about their duties.

They are responsible supporting the children as their cases are taken to the court and heard in order to serve justice. They have been working hard to make the most of the workshop to train the social workers.

Principal Social and Welfare Officer II Jakomboka Tjituaiza- Katjiova shared her vision with the workshop. She indicated that the main purpose of the workshop was to enlighten social workers on the status, functions and the processes of the justice system in Botswana.

She said it is important for them to be more knowledgeable on child friendly justice. This will be helpful for all victimized children, witnesses and offenders in the Gaborone City area.  The offiicials have shared that through the workshop they can make sure that social workers can support the victimized children in the way that they deserve.

Futher, the one day workshop will help in ensuring that the children are safe and happy.

Furthermore Katjiova further highlighted that the aim of the meeting was also to provide Social workers with knowledge and understanding of best practices in handling cases before the judicial system as well as to enhance stakeholder collaboration with the judicial service providers.

Discussions on child friendly courts and court etiquette were led by Chief Magistrate, His Worship Daniel Nkau and Chief Magistrate Worship Kamogelo Mmesi of Extension II court.
