Glengarry Primary School handed over to Kwanjunga: KZN

South Africa: KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education, Ms Mbali Frazer officially inaugurated and handed over a new state-of-the-art Glengarry Primary School. The school will serve the members of the community in the Kwanjunga area in Umzimkhulu Local Municipality.

The inauguration and handover ceremony of the school premises was hosted on Friday 26 April 2024. The constriction of the new school premesis has been welcomed by the members of the community.

The Primary school has a longstanding history with the people of the Kwanjunga community. The and has been a major educational institution for the students of several generations in the community.

The department of education is extremely happy to help the community get the new and modernized school. The authorities have shared some glimpses from the launch and handover ceremony.

The school was built by the community in 1937 as a mud school. Over the last few decades, the school has served the community extremely well and helped many students get access to educational facilities.

In line with the history of the place, the Department of education saw a need to rebuild this school.  The total cost for the new Glengarry Primary School is R41.7 million.

The school consists of a number of new and modern facilities which would help the students get access to good quality education

  • An NSNP kitchen
  • An Early Childhood Development Center
  • ECD ablution facilities
  • A media center
  • Ablution facilities for boys and girls
  • A soccer field
  • A combo court
  • Security fencing
  • Covered concrete walkways
  • A guard house.

MEC Mbali Frazer expressed her happiness about the business and employment opportunities created by this project. This project created 119 employment opportunities for local people.

“One of the concerns I always have when I hand over schools to the community is the damaging of schools during service delivery protests and general criminal activities by community members. I want to appeal to this community to protect this infrastructure,” said MEC Frazer.
