Zambia: North-western Province Permanent Secretary, Grandson Katambi, has called on the sports administrators to support volleyball. The officials have shared that the sport has ben very popular in the province
The permanent secretary has urged sports stakeholders to embrace and support the growth of volleyball in the province. The Permanent Secretary attended the opening of a three – day Capacity Building Training programme.
The event was attended by the Coaches, Referees and Administrators of the sports sector. The training programme was organised by the North-West Volleyball Association in Solwezi.
The permanent secretary Katambi said the government is ready to support the growth of all sports including volleyball. The sports sector of the country has been working hard to make a mark of their own for the people.
Furthermore the Permanent Secretary said the government believes that there is no minor sport in this sector. He said that playing volleyball can also save as a source of income and job opportunity especially for the young people.
“President Hakainde Hichilema is on record in uplifting all sports disciplines and as a province, we believe that volleyball is a sport that can be used to create job opportunities and help youths have healthy lifestyles by preventing them from engaging in illicit vices,” he said.
In a speech read on his behalf by North-Western Province Assistant Secretary, Bornwell Njungu, the Permanent Secretary further called on the private sector to consider partnering with government in sponsoring various sports disciplines and put the province on the map.
Meanwhile, Volleyball Course Director, Gift Chesekela, said the delegation intends to train coaches, volleyball administrators and referees in all the 10 provinces with technical and financial support from Zambia Volleyball Association (ZAVA).
He said the training will cover both the theory and physical aspects, adding that participants will write examinations for them to be certified.
The training has attracted participants from various districts in the province. The members of the community have shared that the sports sector of the country will improve significantly through the training initiatives
