Zambia: President Hakainde Hichilema visited citizens who were admitted to the hospital because of the Cholera Treatment Center at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka. President visited to hospital on Wednesday.

The President commended health workers, the Ministry of Health, Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU), other ministries and partners, including volunteers, for their continued care and support for those affected by the Cholera epidemic.

Moreover, he appreciated the public and partners who were present at the hospital in order to donate various commodities to patients who were fighting cholera. He also gave condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones during the Pandemic.

He also gave an address to the public in which he requested the public to make their environment clean and avoid throwing garbage anyhow, as it is a major cause of dirt on the streets of Lusaka and others.

The President reiterated his call for all to stand together rather than politicise the cholera situation in the country.

He also advised youngsters to abstain from excessive consumption of alcohol and beverages that consume alcohol and do things that are good for their future.

The President has instructed the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to enforce high standards of hygiene among property owners.

During the same tour, Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo appealed to Lusaka residents to avoid unnecessary movements to curb the transmission of the highly contagious Cholera outbreak.

The Minister has also advised people visiting the Cholera centre to ensure that they are disinfected so that the transmission of the devasting waterborne disease is not exacerbated further.

She attributed the high number of cholera fatalities to people delaying seeking medical attention. Hence, many succumb to the disease.

The country has, in the last 24 hours, recorded 528 new cholera cases with 17 deaths, bringing the cumulative number of cases since October 2023 to 7,529 with 528 deaths.
