Itezhi Tezhi District gets new screening centers, district hospital

Zambia: The Ministry of Health in Zambia has completed the construction of two screening and treatment centres at Masemu Urban Clinic. Additionally, the district authorities have also announced the completion of a District Hospital in Itezhi-Tezhi District.

The Prefabricated facilities are being constructed by Southern Province Health Office (SPHO). The United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) via the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) is funding the construction.

As per the sources, the facilities include new medical equipment and furniture in both the facilities respectively. The people of Zambia will benefit tremendously fro the addition of the district hospital and the screening centers to the healthcare infrastructure of the district.

Itezhi-Tezhi District Health Director Joseph Tembo added that the construction of the two facilities is part of the government’s goal to provide equitable access, cost-effective and quality health services to its people.

“This facility is linked to the vision through our goal which is providing equitable access, cost-effective and quality health services,” Dr. Tembo said.

Meanwhile, Nursing Officer in Charge at Masemu Urban Clinic Rachael Mumba shared the benefits that people of the district could reap. She appreciated the administration and authorities for taking the charge of constructing the screening and treatment centers.

Nursing Officer Rachael Mumba said, “As a result of the development, the clinic is now providing services such as cancer screening, Voluntary Counseling and Testing, and Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC), among others.”

Meanwhile Medical Officer at Itezhi-Tezhi District Hospital Gibson Malama noted that the facility at Itezhi-Tezhi Hospital has provided much-needed extra space to provide additional services.

“Our hospital has for some time been struggling in terms of space and with the coming of the prefabricated facility, it has provided extra space for the hospital to provide quality services which include privacy and confidentiality,” Dr. Malama said.

Dr Malama further said the Hospital was grateful to the Partners for putting up such a structure.

The people of Itezhi-Tezhi District have appreciated the district administration for their steps towards the welfare of the people. They have applauded them for keeping the people’s needs in their minds.
