Zambia: The police force of the Lusaka Province has arrested a fifteen-year-old male juvenile from Lusaka. The boy was charged with murder following an incident in which he hit 35-year-old Enoch Chanda with his car. The victim was a Security Officer at Manda Hill.
The victim was hit by the juvenile’s vehicle, resulting in his death.
The incident was first reported as a Fatal Road Traffic Accident on 31st December 2023, around 22:00 hours. 53-year-old Albert Musonda who is also a Security Guard from G4S Security Company reported the incident.
Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, have identified the vehicle involved in the accident as a Toyota Alphard. The Registration number of the vehicle was BLA 4637 additionally, it was white in color.
The commanding officer explains that the person who reported the incident, Musonda was patrolling Car Park number three at the scene of the incident. He heard a bang and when he went to check, he saw the aforementioned vehicle had hit into a stationary Toyota Allion.
Hamoonga says the driver of the Toyota Alphard was stopped and advised to park the vehicle but decided to speed off after assuring the Guard he would oblige.
He conveys that security guard Musonda called out the deceased, who was manning Car Park number four. He asked the victim to close the gate, but the juvenile, in trying to flee from the scene, bashed Chanda.
Hamoonga states that the juvenile and his passengers then ran away, leaving the vehicle at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver later apprehended and detained the suspect.
The Commanding officer of the Lusaka Province Police Command claimed that the Juvenile had no Driver’s license. The vehicle which was involved in the incident has been impounded.
Meanwhile Ganji Mhango aged 21 who permitted the minor to drive the vehicle has been formally arrested and charged for permitting an unlicensed driver to operate the car.
