Malawi: A police station in Karonga District has recieved the reports of an unidentified object falling from the sky on Friday. The Station Officer In-charge for Karonga District Police, Kelvin Mulezo announced that they have called for explosive experts to identify the object.
The explosives experts from the National Police Headquarters will arrive in the district either Sunday or Monday to identify the object. According to the police reports, the object fell from the sky at Malimbalimba Village in the area of Paramount Chief Kyungu.
The village people have claimed that the partially burnt metallic object was reported to have fallen from the sky. The village people also said that the object in question hit the ground with a loud sound.
According to Mulezo, an explosives expert from Ipyana Mobile Police has already visited the scene after the sighting of the object. The first experts came on Saturday and kickstarted the investigation process.
He was however, unable to identify the object and speculated that it might be space satellite debris.
Meanwhile, the area where the object landed has been cordoned off by Police to ensure that villagers stay away. If the object is indeed space satellite debris, it can be full of radiation and dangerous for the people of the village to be near
There are however reports that an individual from the village has dug it up during the night. He allegedly took the strange object home. The police confirmation on this part of the reports is still pending.
A resident of the village, Austin Lungu said the object came crashing in a ball of light around 4 pm on Friday.
Police have since advised locals to stay away from the site. The people of the village are extremely curious about the nature of the object and are awaiting further investigation.
The police officers however, have taken precautions to make sure that the identification process of the explosive object can be concluded safely. The administration has announced that they will continue to share new updates on the social media accounts and with media.
