South Africa: The team of athletes from KwaZulu-Natal participated in the official opening of the National High Schools Track and Field Championships. The opening ceremony for the athletic event was hosted in the Western Cape Province on Wednesday.
The National High School Track and Field Championship will be held over three days. Athletes and gifted students from across the country will attend the event.
The officials of the education department have shared some images from the opening ceremony.
The department officials have also extended their best wishes to the KZN Team athletes for their performance in the championship. The participating athletes have been divided into teams according to their respective provinces.
The teams participated in the parade assembly & march pass during the official opening ceremony for the track and field championship. Acting Director-General Stella Khumalo was present at the event as a representative of the Government.
She was responsible for welcoming all the teams to the three day championship which will run from April 4 to April 6. The athletes will be competing in various competitions, including relay races, sprints, shot put, long jump and more.
The high school athletic championship aimed to encourage students to take an interest in sports and athletics. Acting Director-General Stella Khumalo welcomed the teams representing the Department of Sports, Art and Culture to the championship.
Chief Director of DSAC, Barram addressed the members of the KwaZulu Natal Team. He encouraged the athletes to perform well during the championship.
He further reminded them of their duty to their province, KwaZulu-Natal. He said they are the best as he expects everyone to perform to the best of their ability.
He is counting on them to perform well and as they have the potential to get the Top 3 positions in their races.
The winners of the various events may also receive scholarships from universities for representing them, as there are scouts at the event searching for talent.
