Botswana: Kweneng District Council Social Services and RADP Committee recently took on the tour of the Shadishadi Primary School. The officials of the district administration took on the opportunity to check in.
The administration sought to make sure that the school has access to all the facilities for the provision of quality education to the students. The Shadishadi Primary School has the capacity to house approximately 280 students.
Further, thee hostels of the primary school also board students from 23 settlements around the village. The Kweneng District administration and RADP Committee claimed that the aim of this visit was to assess the health and safety of the workplace.
In addition to this, the visiting officials also interacted with teachers and staff regarding the various developments in the Primary School. The district administration shared some glimpses from the visit on their social media.
The officials have shared that it is very important to maintain strict adherence to protocols to protect the student’s wellbeing. Kweneng District Council Principal Community Development Officer, Ketumile Motlhagodi spoke of the support that the administration will extend to the school.
He stated that the total amount of P900 000.00 have been approved (financial year 2024/25) for general hostel maintenance. The new upgrades will include including plumbing and replacement of broken windows and doors.
Furthermore, Motlhagodi stated that they are also planning to buy a bus. The vehicle will be used for transportation of students to their home villages during school vacations.
Shadishadi Primary School Matron Mpule Kgosiang spoke about the challenges the school has been facing. She said that shortage of staff is one of the challenges they are facing.
In this regard, the matron requested for recruitment of house mothers to take care of the kids during the nights. Adding on to that, Thebolo Sobasoba Shadishadi Primary School Boarding Master stated that 19 staff members are not enough to take care of 280 students so they request for the increment.
The Councillors appreciated teachers and staff for their commitment to work regardless of the challenges they are facing.
