Lilongwe, Malawi: The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources has opened registration for a one week science camp. Youngsters with the passion for science and technology can apply to be a part of the learning experience.
The organization will run a one-week science camp from 28 December 2023 to 2 January 2024 at its Bunda Campus in Lilongwe.
The attendants will get the chance to get the practical experiences of a number of activities, giving them a much-needed boost in their careers. The camp is designed to encourage more young minds to take interest in STEM.
The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) is excited to open their doors for the students The initiative falls in line with the Malawi 2063 aspirations.
The science week will provide secondary school students with hands-on experience on secondary school science experiments using state of the art science laboratories at the university. Students that attend this camp will have a chance to interact with scientists, receive coaching for STEM career choices, and watch science documentaries.
The students will conduct experiments in the following areas during the science camp:
BIOLOGY
- Estimating population sizes of plant and animals
- Transport systems in plants
- Cell replications
- Microbial cultures
- Human blood typing
COMPUTER STUDIES
- Software installation and upgrading (Operating system and applications)
2. Microsoft Excel (basics, formulas, and functions)
3. Introduction to databases (creating tables, forms, and reports)
CHEMISTRY
- Polymerization
- Reaction of metals
- Electroplating
- Fractional distillation
- Saponification
PHYSICS
- Measuring tools
- Vectors
- Motion
- 4.Optics
The cost for each student for all the sessions is K50,000. Accommodation and meals will cost K90,000 for the entire week.
