Zambia (Lusaka): Lusaka Deputy Mayor Ketty Nanyangwe stopped the construction of a project at a designated play park in Lusaka’s Northeast area.
Nanyangwe, who is also the Silwizya ward Councilor where the play Park is located, has objected to the City’s Planning Authority. She questioned the city for changing the use of the Park without a full Council meeting to approve the change of use.Â
The Play Park has illegally been given to the individual who intends to change the land use from a play park to an individual plan. Nanyangwe removed the Town Planning Bill Board said no one can change the use of the play park.
She said the Full Council meeting resolved that they are not selling any property in the City and wondered how the planning Authority decided to give permission to change the use of the play park to individual plans.
Nanyangwe said any changes can only be done with permission from the Minister of Local Government and not from the Council. She said people will think that the UPND is abusing its authority when not.
She added she will not tolerate illegal activities, especially in the Silwizya ward, where she is the area Councilor. She said UPND does not want to tolerate irregularities during its term in Government.
They launched the NOTICE to the public:Â
“STEVEN NGULUBE MHONE intends to apply for Planning Permission for Change of land use from PLAY PARK TO MIXED USE (RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL AND INSTITUTIONAL (Temple)) at Stand No. LUS/2420, Limbe Road in Northmead Area, LUSAKA. The plot measures approximately 5,200 square metres in extent,” read Notice.
This application may be viewed at the office of the Town Clerk at Lusaka City Council, P. O. Box 30077, Civic Centre on Independence Avenue.Â
Submissions, observations or objections may be made to the City of Lusaka Planning Authority, without charge (addressed to the Town Clerk or Director of City Planning) in writing specifying in general terms the grounds of objection of the application within a period of 28 days from the date of publication of this Notice. The period of publication of this Notice is 13 December, 2023 ending on 9″ January 2024.
