Zambia: Police in Bob Bromes of Lusaka West have arrested and detained 11 junkies for the offence of aggravated robbery. The police force has been receiving reports of increased incidents of criminal activities associated with assault and robberies.
Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says it is alleged that the said suspected junkies have been attacking and robbing residents of their properties in the area.
Hamoonga said that the recent incident occurred on January 3, 2024, in Lusaka Middle West. The arrests were made after police officers conducted an operation in the area.
He said a Complainant, Victoria Kalombo, aged 36 of an unknown house number, confirmed that she was attacked by the same group of suspected junkies.
Hamoonga said suspects were identified as Enoch Nanda aged 23, Jones kambawa aged 20, Collins Chanda aged 20, Emmanuel Mulenga 20, Paul Phiri aged 21, Green Lubenga aged 20 and Moses Sakala aged 20.
The police spokesperson also confirmed that they have arrested several other junkies. They have also identified the other arrested individuals, including Derrick Lubela aged 21, Joseph Njobvu aged 19, Anthony Chanda aged 20 and Mike Kabenela aged 21.
Hamoonga said all the accused are of unknown house numbers in Lusaka West.
He said Police managed to recover an Airtel Television, two Techno phones, two itel phones, an Oppo phone, a Samsung phone, a knife and two Golf sticks, which the suspects were using when attacking residents.
Hamoonga said the suspects will soon appear in court.
