In collaboration with Football Association of Malawi (FAM), NBS Bank will conduct a parade with the trophy for this year’s Charity Shield edition.
The parade will feature heavyweights FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Bingu Stadium.
The parade has already begun from Gateway Mall and will conclude at BNS with Zeze Kingston spicing up the event with a musical performance.
The Bullets have qualified as champions of the elite league while the Bankers have qualified as runners up of the league.
The Charity Shield Cup Kits was unveiled ahead of Big Clash. The Charity Shield traditionally contests the matches of the league champions against the cup winners from the previous campaign.
The FAM Marketing and Broadcasting Manager – Tulipo Mwenelupembe commended NBS Bank for the sponsorship and said, “The highly anticipated Charity Shield will give supporters a glimpse of how the teams have prepared theselves ahead of the season.”
Manager Mwenelupembe added, “As a football governing body, we appreciate the role of the bank in developing the sports and with this NBS has increased the sponsorship from K20 million to K40 million.”
He mentioned that the money raised from the match will be used for the purpose of building sanitation facilities at different schools in Lilongwe.
Considering this, CEO of Silver Strikers Football Club – Patrick Chimimba has warned the teams to watch for the top league and other such competitions, as his side is more than just ready for this season, beginning with the game against Bullets.
Both the rivals are set to clash in the Charity Shield Match to mark the start of the 2024-25 season.
Malawi FAM Charity Shield is an association football competition that is held every year in Malawi. The competition was first initiated by the Malawi Football Association in 2016 with a purpose to replace both the Malawi Charity Shield and the Tutulane Charity Cup.
The tournament between 4-teams was changed in 2019 to be a single match between the reigning Malawi FAM Cup winners and the Malawi Premier Division league champions.
The event is held every year between March or April of each year and it has been record that since its inception Nyasa Big Bullets FC has won the Shield on every occasion.
