Malawi: The National Spelling Bee has reached out to the people of goodwill to donate to the children of vulnerable households. The National Spelling Bee stakeholders talked about the dedication of the children to improve their lives.
The organization observed that 126 spellers turned up to compete in Dowa. They were determined to take a step towards wanting to change their lives. “19 children showed up wearing worn-out uniforms and participated” the organization claimed.
The spelling bee contest was hosted at Dowa Secondary School on Sunday. The national organization shared some images of children who were participating in worn-out and torn uniforms.
The stakeholders appreciated the student’s commitment to their future. The organization said, “Children go to school to learn regardless of them being from the rural or urban schools.”
The children coming from rural are in a dire situation as they walk long distances to school barefooted while wearing torn uniforms. They all want to improve their literacy levels and work on the foundation for their future.
The passion for education that the children have is the same passion that they have for the Spelling Bee. Rural children come to the contest to participate and compete. They trust themselves that they can achieve what any child can.
The Spelling Bee is not just about winning trophies. It’s about the intellectual benefits children gain from building vocabulary, adopting a reading culture, building confidence, improving public speaking, reasoning skills, and gaining exposure.
Accordingly, the Malawi National Spelling Bee extended a heartfelt appeal to people of goodwill. They urged the people to donate in any capacity they can, whether it be school uniforms, school shoes, exercise books, or school bags.
The stakeholders asserted that the donation would greatly benefit these rural Spelling Bee participants. Vision 2063 is for this generation; let us support them now. You may contact the Spelling Bee team directly or via Zodiak offices. Together, we can make a difference.
