Botswana: The Mayor of the Gaborone City Austin Abraham held a series of courtesy meetings with Botswana Football Association and Botswana Motor Sports respectively. The city council shared the glimpses from both the meetings and shared some details about the meetings.

Botswana Football Association (BFA) CEO Mfolo Mfolo accompanied the BFA Head of Marketing to the courtesy meeting with the Mayor. Masego Busumane briefed the Mayor on the progress of the Botswana Senior Women National team (The Mares)’s journey to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Mfolo pointed out that the team has qualified to the WAFCON. Therefore, the association needs to raise P10 million towards the preparations of the sports event.

He pleaded for support from Gaborone City Council, which could assist the team in fully preparing for and participating in the games. At the time, the Mayor pledged to support the BFA mission in any way possible.

The City Mayor pointed out national teams carries the nations hope when participating in international tournaments. He asserted that district leadership and other stakeholders should do their part to ensure that the team adequately participate in the tournament.

Further, Mayor Abraham held a meeting with delegation from Botswana Motor Sports (BMS). The team of the BMS was led by Vice President Roseline Mamaloukos. The purpose of the visit was to sincerely seek. The mayor’s support for the national team The Botswana Motorsports team will participate in a competition in Morocco sometime this year.

The vice president of the organization, Mamaloukos, said motor sport has a significant impact on the economy and society at large. Henceforth, a broader land space in and surrounding the Gaborone area is highly required to carry out motor sporting activities.

Mayor Austin Abraham appreciated the official visit and noted that the delegation came at an opportune time. Recently the City Mayor organized a celebratory victory to motorcycle racer Ross Branch following his podium finish in the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia.

The City Mayor promised support to the motor sport and will engage other stakeholders to emulate him. He added that the sporting industry especially motor sports has the potential to create more jobs for Batswana and improve the appearance of Gaborone.

Mamaloukos was accompanied by the BMS Public Relations officer Colonel Majama and Bontleng Motor Club representative Goitseone Modikwa.
