South Africa: KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education, Mbali Frazer, applauded the top achievers for the 2023 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations. She visited the Harry Gwala District during the Districts’ Matric Excellence Awards on Friday.
The awards ceremony aimed at recognizing the top performers of the district was hosted in Ixopo. The Peacevalley Hall, in Ixopo served as the venue for the awards ceremony. The Department of education also shared some images from the venue on their social media.
The education staekeholders of the district came together to celebrate the consistently good performance of the students. Through the awards ceremony, they took the opportunity to encourage the students to continue to strive towards excellence.
The student of ethe district have constantly achieved good marks in the examinations and making their families proud. Mbali Frazer, the MEC for education has expressed her pride on seeing the students doing well in their educational careers.
The Harry Gwala District has been on an upward trajectory for the past four years. The result from the district was recorded at 75% in 2020, 76% in 2021, 82% in 2022.
During the 2023 edition of the examination, the district secured a result of 87.1% in 2023. Candidates from this district who sat for the 2023 NSC exams were 6 697. Out of this number, and 6087 passed.
The Department of education further clarified that out of the 6087 who passed, 3221 obtained bachelor passes and 1960 diploma passes. MEC Frazer expressed her satisfaction with the quality of the results and the number of schools that achieved a 100% pass.
“As we celebrate this success, it’s important to recognize that there is still work to be done. Looking ahead, as a province, we have ambitious goals. The KwaZulu-Natal province aims to be the top-performing province in the country. Our target for 2024 is 100%”, said MEC Frazer.
MEC Frazer, together with HOD for KZN Department of Education, Nkosinathi Ngcobo, DDG Corporate Services, Advocate Bheki Masuku, DDG Curriculum Delivery, Mbongiseni Mazibuko, Chief Directors, as well as the District Director, Ms Bongi Ntombela, handed over awards to the top achievers.
