South Africa: The Free State Province extended their welcome to the Minister of Basic Education in South Africa Siviwe Gwarube. She visited four school in the Province in different catagories, including the Pholoho Special school.
The Minister was accompanying the MEC of Education for Free State Julia Maboya and several other education officers. They visited the schools in the Matawa Education District. The Pholoho Special School is dedicated to the welfare of learners with special needs.
The schools give the learners the skills and training to allow them to become active citizens in the country. The MEC for Education highlighted that they had a very successful meeting with the minister during her visit.
Minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube met with the senior management and education stakeholders of the province. The other officials, teachers, school management and more were also present at the event.
Thee Minister of Basic Education said that she is on the visit as she wants to listen and learn aboyt how the things are happening in the provinces and the schools. Minister Siviwe Gwarube visited the secondary schools in the province.
She said that she wants to understand how the schools works. She then visited the Chulehele Primary School and Louise Bota Technical School. She met the students in all the schools and learned about the working of the department of education in Free State.
The officials have shared that the visit of the Minister of Basic Education comes ahead of the NSC examinations in the province. In light of this, the Minister also observed how the department had prepared for the examinations.
The education stakeholders have claimed that they want to get their students ready for a rapidly changing world. They want to inculcate critical thinking skills, a global perspective and respect for core values like honesty.
The Free state administration said that they are on the mission to produce well trained well balanced and refined youngsters. The youth will be well prepared to venture into the world for tertiary education.
The Minister said that on Monday, the largest number of students are ready to sit in the NSC exams for the year. She assured the public that they would get updates on the state of readiness from all the provinces.
She said that they are confident that the provinces and districts are ready to roll out this massive operation. She highlighted that after the national elections, this is the biggest undertaking by the education stakeholders of South Africa
