Morocco rescued nearly 256 illegal migrants, and as per the sources, they were rescued by the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean Guards on Saturday.

Morocco has long been a transit nation for African migrants wanting to reach Europe.

As per the point of view of one of the migrants, ‘Mokhtar Gonbor, 30, added up why most of the young men were now walking home with his humble bag of belongings draped over his shoulder.

Furthermore, he said, We don’t have any food to eat or money, and we slept on the roadside last night.” He was returning to Morocco after knowing the fact that this was not the life he wanted.

Illegal migrants in Africa are very high, and most people prefer to come and stay in Africa. The conditions get worsened after the COVID-19 and Omicron variant because many people lost their jobs due to this and faced a financial crisis.

In 2021, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees rescued 357 illegal migrants and returned them to Libya.

They sent 357 people to return last night to Tripoli, and some 267 were from Zawiya in two separate operations. Fifty-four women and 22 children among them,” and this was tweeted by UNHCR.

Many illicit emigrants, primarily Africans, prefer to cross the Mediterranean Sea to European shores from Libya, given the confusion and insecurity that have invaded the North African country since the fall of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011.

According to UNHCR, nearly 28,000 illegal immigrants have been rescued and returned to Libya so far in 2021.
