Cape Town: The Recreation and Parks Department of City of Cape Town has officially opened the refurbished Muurbal Street Park. The Park is located in Beacon Valley that was upgraded recently.
The upgradations have been made to improve the recreational offerings of the areas that enhance the community facilities. Upgraded street park aims to create a safer, more accessible and enjoyable space for residents especially during the upcoming summer holiday period.
The project is completed in association with the local ward councillor and community representatives. Its goal is to create active spaces for gym activities as well as play that provide seating areas for relaxation.
As per the sources, a budget of nearly R1 million was allocated by the department. The investment underscores the ongoing commitment made by the City of Cape Town to enhance public spaces for the benefit of all residents.
These upgradations were part of a phased approach to ensure long-term sustainability and continuous improvement to enhance the usability and appearance of the park.
Muurbal Street Park in Beacon Valley features, recreational equipment for children and families. It also consists of reinforced fencing to improve safety for all park visitors. A new tarmac walkway which is particularly designed to withstand high foot traffic and improve accessibility.
It also features a multi-purpose court enhancements that includes gym equipment bases, line markings and combination posts. It also has park furniture installations that offers comfortable seating. It also allows tree planting, provides shade and enhance the aesthetic appeal of the park.
Recreation and Parks Department will also upkeep the park via employment of a park buddy. The local residents who are also encouraged to take ownership of the facility.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health – Councillor Patricia Van der Ross said that the recreational spaces are vital to build healthier and more connected communities.
The upgradations done to Muurbal Street Park show the commitment to create vibrant public spaces where families and individuals can come together to play, exercise, relax and have fun. Ross expressed that they are looking forward to see the positive impact that they will have on the community.
According to the Ward 116 – Councillor Solomon Philander the park project reflects their commitment to listen the needs of the community and deliver meaningful change.
Philander expressed, “I’m proud to be a part of it and I’m excited to see residents enjoying the upgraded facilities that showcase the dedication to uplift communities through impactful infrastructure development.”
