Malawi: Nation Publications Limited Mother’s Fun Run has raised over K300 million in charity. The aim of the fun run was to use the raised funds to support safe motherhood in Chikwawa District. Maternity healthcare is one of the most crucial aspects of promoting better health in any district.
Development of Maternal and Pre Natal as well as post natal care is an important mandate that the government has been working towards. The Nation Publications Limited Mother’s Fun Run is helping to supplement funds for the same.
Safe motherhood centers are cropping up all over the country to support the mothers in all the stages of their pregnancy and post child birth. The aim of these cen,ters is to provide a safe haven for new mothers.
The funds that were generated through the Nation Publications Limited Mother’s Fun Run were given to the district authorities The handover event which took place at Chikwawa community ground.
The theme for the Mother’s Fun Run was, “Walk in Her Shoes.” The event was supported by several partners who made donations and other stakeholders of the district.
Speaking during the event, one of the partners, Press Trust Trustee Audrey Mwala said the Trust is committed to addressing challenges in safe motherhood.
“During the sleepovers, we discovered that equipment is the biggest challenge in health facilities, which is why the Trust has donated equipment worth K20 million,” she said.
Following the Fun Run, guests and partners visited health facility wards before presenting medical equipment for Chikwawa District Hospital and its 33 health facilities.
John Moyo, Acting Director of Business Development and Grants Management at World Vision, emphasized the importance of the initiative.
“This effort aligns with our vision to ensure every child enjoys life to the fullest,” he noted, pointing to World Vision’s Health Technical Program on Maternal and Child Health (MCH) as a key driver of the organization’s involvement in the project.
