Zambia: Njanji Seventh Day Adventist Men Organisation (AMO) has come out to support a  49 years old man of Mbala. The victim, identified as Reuben Musukuma, is currently hospitalised at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

The 11-year-old son of the victim is currently taking care of his father, who is unable to provide for the family due to the treatment. To support the family, NJANJI Seventh Day Adventist Men’s Organisation donated an assortment of items.

Njanji SDA Church Pastor George Mwansa said the church was compelled to make the donation. The organization learned through the media that an 11-year-old boy was taking care of his sick father. Afterwards, the organization felt that they had to support the family.

Pastor Mwansa said the donation is part of the church’s mission and responsibility to render a helping hand to the needy in society.

Pastor Mwansa disclosed that the AMO men, in the interim, managed to mobilise K14,000 for the cause. They used the money to buy the donated items, which included a blanket, a pair of bed sheets, a cell phone, pillows and toiletries.

He stated that the donated items are meant to address the immediate needs facing the family.

The Clergy explained that part of the money would also be used to pay for the meals at the cafeteria. This will help the boy and the father to feed on a daily basis and not go hungry due to lack of funds.

Pastor Mwansa reiterated that religion is about helping the underprivileged and not just going to church and further pledged continued support to the boy till the father is discharged.

“For the immediate situation we decided to donate a blanket, pillows and a few other things which are necessary to address the situation as it is right now,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Constance Phiri, a Nurse attending to the patient at the UTH, thanked the church for coming to the aid of the family.

According to her, the donation will greatly assist the family as the patient continues to receive treatment.

Further, Njanji AMO Leader Albert Chisembe pledged on behalf of the organization to care for the school needs of the boy who is taking care of the father.

Chisembe said the organization is currently facilitating the transportation of an elderly person to come and be at the bedside of Musukuma.
