During her keynote address, MEC Kekana emphasized the importance of instilling the culture of reading in communities in order to shape a future of an educated nation. “As a Department, one of our core mandates is to correct the injustices of the past where our people had to travel long distances in order to access a library, and today we are here to hand over this Library to your doorstep, utilize it for the betterment of your future, spend time in this building and shape a better future for you and generations to come”, highlighted by Department of Sports, Arts and Culture of Limpopo MEC Kekena.

She further called on community members to look after the Library and spare it from Vandalism. “This year, we are taking a decisive decision to protect democratic gains, and this building right here is one of them, don’t protest for roads and then you come and burn the Library, let’s protect the future of our children and that of this community with all we have “, concluded MEC Kekana.

The Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, through Library and Information Services, is creating an enabling environment for a flourishing reading nation by decreasing the level of illiteracy as it installs the culture of reading and learning.

Residents of Limpopo seemed really happy with the MEC’s new campaign, but at the same time, they are praying that these libraries should be available in every section of every township and village.

One of the Facebook users said, “Can’t wait for the day a pair of beautifully crafted scissors snap the ribbon of the first state of the art theatre and studio in Limpopo.”
