Kenya: President William Samoei Ruto announced the financial and management challenges that are faced by the Moi University and assured that they will soon resolve the problem. He has set up a committee to assess the magnitude of the issues tackling the institution and recommend solutions.
President Ruto said that they will put in place an efficient management team, which will allocate enough resources, so that Moi University can excel alike other public universities. He made the remarks at a ceremony held at the Ngeria Technical Training Institute in Kapseret Constituency – Uasin Gishu County, when opened the college. He also commissioned a state-of-the-art ICT lab at the institution.
William Ruto was accompanied by the Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Governors Jonathan Bii (Uasin Gishu) and Stephen Sang (Nandi). He stated that the government is on track in laying the 100,000 km of fibre optic to connect 100,000 public institutions to the Internet.
The President of Kenya encouraged the youth to harness the power of the Internet and the digital space for productive income-generating activities that will improve their lives rather than misusing it for unlawful acts.
He expressed concern over the emerging trends of youth using the digital space, especially the social media for immoral and criminal activities, creating and sharing computer-generated artworks depicting people in coffins and graves.
Ruto explained that instead of using the Internet to post people in coffins, they should use it to monetise the talents and create jobs for themselves. He added that its is leaders’ fault who encouraged the youth to misuse the Internet and said that there was a need for responsible to foster good morals. Others encouraged young people to continue the trend of putting people in coffins should be done very carefully, as they build a generation that will self-destruct it.
Earlier, he connected the family of Mzee Simeon Nyango in Cheboror, Kesses Constituency to power under the Rural Electrification Programme. He highlighted that the government is investing KSh 1.8 billion to connect 20,000 households to electricity in Uasin Gishu County in the next three years.
The President explained the broader commitment of the government to connect one million households to electricity. He urged Kenyans not to be swayed by the ones spreading falsehoods and instead unite and rally behind the country’s transformation agenda.
He emphasised that the country can only move forward if they are united. This is how they are going to have a nation that all of them will be proud of. The government has made significant strides in the past two years, explained President Ruto as they have stabilised country economy.
