Kenya: The administration of the Baringo County organized press conference ahead of the KirDam Half Marathon. The Press Conference was held at Riadha House on Wednesday to shared the details of the marathon event.
The marathon event will be hosted on November 23, 2024, in Baringo Central Constituency, Baringo County. The marathon will feature a number of sporting activities including 21 km and 10 km races for the participants.
The event will also include a 6 km corporate run as a part of the schedule. During the press conference, the organization revealed that revealed that the marathon serves as an opportunity to promote environmental conservation. The officials have shared that the marathon is more than just an athletic event, and will be open for the general public.
Mr. Isaish Cherotich chaired the press conference. They shared plans to organize a tree-planting exercise the day before the marathon. The organization has shared that merging sports with ecological responsibility will help the people in participating in environment protection.
The event will also help the government in ensuring that the people of the country can come together in unity and work towards environment protection
Mr. Cherotich announced the reward structure for the 21 km race for the marathon. According to the leader, the winners in both the men’s and women’s categories will each receive KES 250,000.
Meanwhile the first and second runners-up for the event will receive KES 175,000 and KES 100,000, respectively. Around 100 participants have already registered for the marathon, the number makes it clear that the event is highly sought after and anticipated.
The press conference was attended by several government officials. They extended an invitation to the people to participate in large numbers. The officials said that the marathon will help foster a sense of community, improve physical fitness.
It will also help in boosting the local economy of the county by attracting a large number of visitors to Baringo County. Patrick Kandie, the Member of Parliament, Kabarnet, who is also the event’s patron also extended an open invitation to the people Kenya Forest Service is one of the biggest sponsors of the event.
