Retreat Indoor Swimming Pool is back in service after major upgradations 

The major improvements and repairs undertaken to date consists of a full renovation and overhaul of the filtration system, Refurbishment and installation of new heating units and Construction of a new baby pool.

Cape Town: The Retreat Swimming Pool indoor facility has restarted and opened its doors to the public. The pool is back in operation after several months of critical upgrades and began its services on October 17, 2024. 

The Recreation and Parks Department of the City of Cape Town is making good progress in its efforts to bring its indoor facilities back online. There are four indoor swimming pools around the metropole with Retreat back in business. 

Reportedly, all eyes are now on Strand, which is set to reopen in early December. Meanwhile, plans are in place and arranged to start opening community swimming pools in a staggered approach from mid-November. Further details around specific opening dates and operational hours will be made available in due course.

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health – Councillor Patrici Van der Ross said that the swimming pool operations draw significant interest from the public each year and for a good reason.  

She mentioned that they are among the most popular recreational facilities. The Recreation and Parks Department is working efficiently to get as many facilities as possible to be summer-ready. The officials asked the public to bear with them while arrangements are finalised. 

Patricia and her team assured citizens about the present status and said that the opening dates are confirmed, and these will be communicated soon. For the time being, she expressed that they want to welcome the regulars to the Retreat Swimming Pool.  

Councillor Ross added that it has been a long haul but they hope that the upgrades will provide an improved user experience.  

“With all of our recreational facilities, I also want to encourage our public to help us keep these facilities in tip-top shape, for everyone’s benefit,” said Patricia Van der Ross.

Alderman Shanen Rossouw also marked his statement that the reopening of the Retreat Indoor Swimming Pool is a welcome development for the community, giving residents a revitalised space to relax and enjoy.  

It is the facility that provides a place for recreation and also fosters community spirit. He mentioned that they are looking forward to see it becoming a hub of activity once again and encourage everyone to make the most of it. 

As per the sources, the Retreat Indoor Swimming Pool, work completed, includes upgrades to key systems and facilities ensuring a safer and more efficient experience for pool users. 

The major improvements and repairs undertaken to date consists of a full renovation and overhaul of the filtration system, Refurbishment and installation of new heating units and Construction of a new baby pool. 

Pool also considers minor repairs to the main pool include tiling, replacement of missing expansion joints, etc. along with the replacement of outdated valves on the pool deck. Water quality, energy efficiency and overall facility safety have also been improved through the enhancements. The facilities will be open seven days a week, including public holidays, between the timings 10:00 a.m. and 05:00 p.m.
