South Africa: A Zimbabwean National believed to be the kingpin of a Truck Theft Syndicate has been arrested in an Operation by RUSA Officers in Durban KZN. The kingpin was a resident of Zimbabwe but had been operating within South Africa for the last few years.

The Reaction officers had hunting down the kingpin for the leader and kingpin of the truck theft syndicate for several months. The operation which finally arrested the kingpin was executed on Wednesday.

The members of the community have shared that the numbers of vehicle hijackings and robberies had been on the rise. Accordingly, the people of the community have been urging the law enforcement agencies to do something.

A businessman from Shakaskraal approached the Reaction Unit South Africa in Durban KwaZulu Natal. The businessman requested assistance from the SAPS Kwa Mashu Cas after his truck was stolen by his employee.

The businessman started some investigation on his own time and realised that the suspect had sought employment at various trucking companies in other provinces previously. He informed the officials of the Reaction Unit South Africa that after a few weeks the said suspect would disappear with the load & the mechanical horse & trailers.

The suspect would then changes jobs at trucking companies in other provinces & evade Law Enforcement

Reaction Officers worked on information that they had received from the business owner. They further gathered that the suspect was working with several foreign nationals  who had been living in South Africa.

Information received that the suspect was thirty years old and originally lived in the capital City of Harare in north east Zimbabwe. The suspect fled  to another province after stealing the FAW truck in June 2024.

The officials have revealed that the robbery had happened Kwazulu Natal and the suspect was currently working in the Free State after relocating.  As a part of the operation, Reaction Officers lured the man back to KZN.

They were tracking him  with the help of plainly dressed officers and unmarked vehicles. They observed him for several hours in the morning  of Wednesday while waiting for positive identification.

When the officers had positively identified the suspect, they restrained him and placed him under arrest without incident.
