Serowe: SDC commemorates Breast Cancer Awareness Day

October is celebrated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month all over the world. The Serowe District Council collaborated with the ODC to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness day on October 27, 2023. The officials have shared some glimpses of the event on their social media accounts.

The event aimed to honour those with breast cancer and those who have survived the disease. In addition, the members of the District Council also wanted to remember those whose lives were lost to the disease and to support the progress the nation is making in unison to defeat breast cancer.

The event was held in all the cities across Botswana, aiming to encourage full responsibility in learning about breast cancer. During the event, The health officials spoke about the necessary steps available to prevent, detect early and get treatment. The people must consult a medical professional and expert for the treatment.

The officials of the SDC spoke of the significance of the event on October 27, 2023. In her welcome remarks, Serowe District Council Secretary. Baipelelang Photlokwe commended everyone in attendance for adhering and supporting the Government’s great initiative.

The SDC officials and other event attendants wore pink outfits on the day to support those fighting breast cancer . “Breast cancer, like most cancers, when detected early, can be treated and defeated. Therefore I urge you all to take care of one another and take necessary precautions to avert complications,” she said.

A breast cancer survivor was the guest of honour at the Serowe District’s Breast Cancer Awareness Day initiative. Kena spoke about her journey of fighting and surviving cancer. She mentioned it was not an easy journey; however, through support from the people close to her, professional health advice and sheer willpower, she managed to defeat the disease.

The event was signed off with a rare case of Gentlemen strolling in heels, much to the amusement of all those in attendance.
