Simon Zulu has won a gold medal for Zambia at the Hungarian International Judo Championship in Budapest Hungary.

Zambia: Simon Zulu has won a gold medal for Zambia at the Hungarian International Judo Championship. The martial arts event was hosted in Budapest, Hungary.  The championing martial artist has been receiving significant praise and applause for his achievement.

The victory comes at an opportune time for the Zambian Athlete as many competitive events are scheduled to be hosted at different times during 2024.

The Zambia Judo Association (ZJA) has also praised Simon Zulu for winning a gold medal. The team was extremely happy to hear of a national’s remarkable success on the international stage.

ZJA Coordinator, Mabvuto Nguni expressed his pride on behalf of the organization. He says his organization is happy to learn of the performance of Zulu in the European Country.

Nguni told the media in an interview, that Zulu’s performance at the preparatory tournament in Budapest was an indicator of success at the All Africa games in Accra, Ghana next month.

The organization has high hopes for the martial artist and believes that he will make them proud. The ZJA believes that he has been working hard to bring laurels and pride to his country.

“We are so happy as ZJA that Zulu won a gold medal. We are hopeful that he will bring more medals from Accra, Ghana next month, ” he said.

He stated that it is pleasing to note that Zulu did the unexpected at the International Judo Championship. He asserted that they expect more during the competitive Continental games in Accra.

He added that together with Steven Mungandu, Zulu would also bring honour to the country during the regional Judo tournament in Angola, later this year.

Zulu defeated James Zahra of Malta to secure Zambia’s top spot on the podium on Friday 17th 2024.

The competition hosted 13 countries, including Zambia, Malta, Romania, Madagascar, Burkina Faso, Ukraine, Korea, Lebanon, Chile, and Australia, Guinea, Cuba and hosts Hungary.

Simon Zulu is based in Hungary, training at the IJF training centre in Budapest as he prepares for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games slated for August.
