Botswana: The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Solomon Mantswe visited the Special Support Group on Tuesday. The meeting between the officers and the team was hosted in the capital city of Botswana, Gaborone
DCP Mantswe is responsible for Support Services in the Botswana Police Service. He highlighted that the meeting will provide a platform for interactive conversations. The aim of the meeting was to interact with the SSG personnel, as they fall under his portfolio.
He said the meeting sought to make sure that both sides can understand the expectations. The meeting sought to identify the needs, challenges, and possible solutions of the issues they encounter.
According to the DCP Solomon Mantswe, the management of the Botswana Police Service is working tirelessly to resolve existing challenges in SSG. The issues that they are facing include limited resources and a shortage of accommodation.
He assured attendants of the meeting that the Management will provide the team with resources. They a constantly working towards enhancing operational efficiency of the Police Force.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police also said Management promotes the One-Organisation Approach. In this approach, various support services Branches and Units of the BPS can work together to achieve a common goal. He has also called o participants to continue upholding BPS core values and supporting one another.
He further appreciated the operative members of SSG operatives for their efforts in curbing crime. The team has played an instrumental role in ensuring the safety and security of the country.
He said that the SSG operatives had also played a very meaningful role in supporting police officers on the ground during the 2024 General Elections.
The Commander, SSG, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Godfrey Lesego Phonchi has expressed his sincere gratitude for the visit and added that the interaction will motivate and guide SSG staff.
During the meting with the team, Deputy Police Commissioner Mantswe appreciated ongoing SSG projects and facilities. The team has been working on construction of the accommodation project, ablutions, and Block E houses which were affected by fire in March this year.
