South Africa: Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba will lead a team of medical specialists who will be performing hand & microsurgery and other advanced orthopaedics procedures at Mokopane Hospital in Waterberg District from the 18 to 20 November 2022 as part of the Rural Health Matters outreach programme.

Mokopane Hospital is located on N1, and as part of the preparation for the disaster period, it is important that we embark on this orthopaedic surgical backlogs project to clear the beds in anticipation of the influx of patients as a result of trauma. The team will operate patients on Limpopo’s waiting list from all five districts to clear all the orthopaedics backlog.

“Our team will be working day and night this weekend to make sure all orthopaedic patients are operated on and can go back to work and join their families so that they enjoy the festive season. This will create enough beds in our hospitals to enable us to deal with emergencies during the festive season”, Said MEC Ramathuba.

Dr Phophi Ramathuba also raised her voice in favour of Rural Health as the festive season is approaching in South Africa.

On rural health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba tweeted from her official Twitter account in which she wrote: In anticipation of the influx of trauma patients as we approach the festive season, our weekend is dedicated to clearing orthopaedic cases. We will be at Mokopane hospital, situated on N1. Special thanks to Prof Matshidze and our winning team ⁦Health Limpopo. Our beds will be freed.

Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba is also leading a medical and health specialists team in Limpopo led by Prof Matshidze and planning to perform a Hand and Microsurgery and other advanced Orthopaedic procedures.
