The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Senior Men's Selection Panel on Friday released the list of the squad for the first match of the Cycle Pure Agarbathi Test Series powered by Yes Bank against the Indian Cricket Team.

The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Senior Men’s Selection Panel on Friday released the list of the squad for the first match of the Cycle Pure Agarbathi Test Series powered by Yes Bank against the Indian Cricket Team.

According to the list, the panel has made an announcement about 13 squad members and two travelling reserve players for the match. The match will be held from July 12 to 16 at the Windsor Park Stadium in the island nation of Dominica.

Notably, it will be a first-time call-up for the left-handed batsman Kirk McKenzie, along with Dominica’s left-handed Alick Athanaze, who have also been named in the list.

Moreover, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, himself congratulated Alick Athanaze on his selection to the squad.

Meanwhile, the Lead Selector, Dr Desmond Haynes, while extending confidence over the approach to batsmanship of McKenzi and Athanaze on recent ‘A’ Team tour of Bangladesh, said that, “The two of these young players who scored really good and played well, we believe they deserve an opportunity. We are without Motie, who is in his rehabilitation, has bring an opportunity for Warrican and Cornwall in the spin bowling department. They have already played Test match and are capable of performing their role.”

The list of the selected sportsmen for the series includes, “Kraigg Brathwaite (Captain), Jermaine Blackwood (Vice Captain), Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Alick Athanaze, Joshua Da Silva, Rahkeem Cornwall, Shannon Gabriel, Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Kirk McKenzie, Raymon Reifer, Kemar Roach as well as Jomel Warrican.”

Emphasizing the need to build and improve as well as striving to move up the ladder, Desmond Haynes mentioned, “Looking forward to the series, we know that it will be a challenging one as we start the new cycle of the ICC Test Match Championship.”

It is to be mentioned that the squad of West Indies will be travelling to Dominica on Sunday after their ongoing pre-series camp at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua. Following which, they will be having training sessions on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning in the build-up to the match.

The following Test Series will be the first fixtures for both West Indies and India teams in the new 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship.

The first match between both teams will be on Wednesday in Windsor Park Stadium, Dominica, at 10 AM (9 AM Jamaica/7:30 PM India). Whereas the 2nd Test will be marked as historic as the 100th Test match between India and West India, which will take place on 20-24 July at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad.
