South Africa: A 38 year old female was shot during a home invasion/hijacking attempt in Hazelmere – KZN. The incident happened  in the afternoon hours of Wednesday.

The victim was trying to protect herself and her two children from being harmed when three armed suspects shot her in her arm and pelvis. The suspects allegedly entered her home in the afternoon hours of the day.

The victim was in the house with her 12 year old son and 23 year old daughter.  The suspects confronted the victim and asked her to hand over the valuables that they owned. At this point, the victim tried to defend herself and her family.

However, she was shot by the three-armed suspects after which they went on to search the house for valuables. They found the keys of the family’s grey VW Jetta 5 with registration NJ 107 697.

The suspects also stole a Samsung mobile from the house and subsequently fled the scene of crime leaving the injured female in the house. Further, the members of the community called the  Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance at approximately 18:12.

The call came after the victim alerted neighbours of the incident. A team of reaction officers were immediately dispatched to the house. On arrival, RUSA Members interviewed the members of the community and were informed that three armed suspects were involved in the crime.

The 12 year old son of the victim had been forced under a bed by the suspects after he began screaming hysterically. After the suspects left with the car and valuables, the injured woman was expedited privately to hospital.

Her children were not injured in the home invasion and hijacking, The Reaction Officers have been investigating the crime. They have not been able to find the culprits or the vehicle that had been stolen from the woman.

Further, the people of the province have hoped that the victim would recover soon and return to her family. Further, they also shared that they are disappointed by the increasing numbers of home invasion and vehicle hijacking incidents especially in Hazelmere – KZN.
