As per the investigating officers, Emmanuel Ndonga’s vehicle, a Toyota Landcruiser Prado, hit the tyre of a Volvo Truck and trailer. The other vehicle was being driven by 31-year-old Paul Maambo from Chawama in Lusaka who was heading in the north direction.

As per the Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, ZAF Officer Ndonga hit the right tyre of the link axle of a Volvo truck. At the time, the latter vehicle was by-passing another Volvo truck parked on the road.

The second Volvo truck belonged to Kaoma Mwansa of Ndola and was parked on the roadside due to a breakdown. Following the incident, Ndonga’s vehicle careered off the road and overturned to the left side.

Due to the impact of the Toyota’s collision with the moving  Volvo truck, he suffered head injuries and a fractured right leg. The victim was rushed to the Livingstone Central Hospital for treatment, where he was pronounced dead.

Daka says the driver of the truck escaped unhurt and has since been detained in Police custody for causing death by dangerous driving.

According to the police officers, the deceased was travelling with another passenger, who survived with injuries.

The passenger has been identified as 27-year-old, Mudenda Mwale, of Park Road in Lusaka. She sustained cuts on the right arm, left side of her neck and general body pains and has since been treated as an outpatient.

Social media users have extended condolences on the death of the officer and hoped for his soul to find peace. Meanwhile, some users have argued that the officials can not charge the truck driver for dangerous driving in this situation as he was also by-passing a parked vehicle.
