Zambia: The Zambia Women’s National Team has arrived back home following a successful September FIFA window adventure in Morocco.
The Copper Queens touched down at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka aboard Kenyan Airways at 08h58.
Only the locally based players jetted into Lusaka as the foreign based players connected to their bases directly from Morocco. Zambia beat the Atlas Lionesses 2-0 and 6-2 in their two series FIFA A grade friendly matches.
The two matches against Morocco were being used to prepare the team for the 2023 COSAFA Women’s Championship, the Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifiers and the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2024 qualifiers.
For the regional competition, Zambia is placed in Group B, alongside Angola, Mozambique, and Comoros, while for Olympics qualification, they face off with Mali.
In the second round of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2024 qualifiers, the 2022 bronze medalists will tackle Angola.
The Copper Queens left for North Africa last Monday afternoon, September 18, with their National Team Coach, Bruce Mwape.
Bruce Mwape has named his final squad for the back-to-back friendlies against Morocco set for 22 and 26 September 2023 in Rabat.
Copper Queen is back home after a successful September FIFA window adventure in Morocco. Before coming home, the Zambian Mission in Morocco held a luncheon for the Zambia Women’s National Team at the embassy offices stationed in Morocco’s capital, Rabat.
Head of Mission Eliphas Chinyonga invited the Copper Queens delegation, Esther Bwalya, to the office where they were hosted for lunch.
Some Zambian students based in Morocco were also invited to the luncheon.
“This lunch has been overdue, and we are happy to host you here because you are our champions. You have represented us well from the time you came for the WAFCON (Women’s Africa Cup of Nations ) in 2022, and we are happy you continue doing so here,” Chinyonga said.
“We are proud of the results, and we urge you to continue working hard because, as I heard from the coaches, you have very important assignments coming up, and you need to be at your best to beat your opponents.”
Bwalya thanked the embassy for hosting the Copper Queens, while defender Esther Siamfuko assured the embassy that the team would continue putting in the hard work for positive results.
Zambia were in Morocco for a two-series friendly with the Atlas Lionesses. The Bruce Mwape-coached side won the first game 2-0 in Casablanca before completing a double with a resounding 6-2 win in Rabat.
The matches were used to prepare the team for the COSAFA Women’s Championship, the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifiers and WAFCON qualifiers.
