Further, the district health authorities announced that the two patients were admitted to Monze Mission Hospital. The third patient is admitted at the Manungu Cholera Centre.

District Health Director Gocho Kapoba has shared some updates about the steps that the administration has taken.  The district health department has heightened contact tracing community sensitization among other measures in order to stem the spread of the epidemic.

Dr Kapoba stated that all three cases involved people who travelled outside the district. He also announced that the Monze District has not recorded any deaths related to cholera.

” So far, we have four cumulative cases of cholera with two who are positive and admitted in Monze Mission Hospital, while one is admitted at Manungu Cholera Centre awaiting results and the other one who was positive has since been discharged, ” said Dr Kapoba.

“On our part we have increased sensitisations and contact tracing, among other measures to stop further spread of the disease, “Dr Kapoba added.

Dr Kapoba also highlighted some challenges in combating the disease that include inadequate laboratory commodities, lack of food sampling kit, inadequate non-medical items needed at the cholera centre and inadequate essential drugs like potassium chloride.
