Zambia: The Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation-ZESCO has announced that they want to start load-shedding. The decision was taken after the people of the country have been facing a drought like situation in the country.

The organization made the announcement during the stakeholders and customer engagement meeting. The load-shedding initiative was announced as a consequence of the drought situation. The stakeholders and customer engagement meeting was hosted on Monday afternoon.

The Tennis Club in Mazabuka served as the venue for the meeting. Due to the ongoing drought situation, the load shedding exercise will also become a problem for the people of Zambia.

Meanwhile, the officials have claimed that the load shedding is important for the management of the country’s resources. The officials have shared that the people of the country is struggling with the energy deficit.

Last week, President Hakainde Hichilema also talked about an electricity management schedule for the electricity company. He announced that the country will have a power deficit of between 450 and 500 Megawatts.

ZESCO Director-Generation, Wesley Lwiindi talked about the significant decision which is likely to affect many members. He disclosed that the Corporation will soon start rationing power supply. The aim of the initiative is to make sure that they can ensure availability throughout the year.

Lwiindi who described the situation as dare, attributed the looming loadshedding to the dry spell being experienced in the country. As a result of the drought situation, the country is experiencing a low water levels for hydro power generation.

The country has been generating most of their electricity through the hydraulic power. The officers of the country have been asking the people of the country to cooperate with the authorities.

Meanwhile, a Mazabuka based Commercial Farmer, Ian Robinson, appealed for a fair distribution of loadshedding.  He revealed that electricity plays an extremely important role in agriculture.

The people of the country have shared that the drought situation has made living situation extremely difficult.
