2 injured in drive by shooting, collision in Canelands KZN

Two individuals have sustained a number of highly critical injuries in a drive by shooting and multi vehicle crash in the neighbourhood

South Africa: Two individuals have sustained a number of highly critical injuries in a drive by shooting and multi vehicle crash in the neighbourhood. The incident happened in the late hours of Sunday, at Canelands KZN. The members of the community saw the drive by incident and alerted the authorities to gather help.

The Reaction Unit South Africa received the call of assistance at approximately 16:13 hours. The officials have shared that the call came from the Verulam SAPS.

During the call, the officials informed the Reaction officers that there had been a collision on Vincent Dickenson Road. They added that several vehicles were part of the collision.

The Reaction Unit South Africa sent a team of officers to help the people stuck at the site of the incident. When the team reached the place, they found two men who had been injured critically.

The victims had sustained several gunshot wounds after the drive by shooting. Both the victims were found in the passenger side of their respective vehicles. It was also established that the drivers of both the vehicles had escaped with no injuries.

The Reaction officers then interviewed the drivers of both the vehicles which were involved in the crash. The driver of the Toyota Etios informed the officers that they were residents of Pinetown – KZN.

Furthermore, the driver said that he works in a E-Cab service. He said that on this occasion he was taking a friend on a private trip to Ndwedwe – KZN.

They were returning from the trip when a white Toyota Hilux bakkie overtook his car at the entrance of New Glasgow Road. The occupants of the bakkie attacked his vehicle with bullets.

To protect himself and his passenger, the driver of the  Toyota Etios sped off from the location. In the panic, the vehicle collided into a black Chevrolet Captiva. At the time, the vehicle was travelling in the opposite direction.

The SUV vehicle Chevrolet Captiva veered off the road and collided into a tree. The driver sustained moderate injuries. The Toyota Etios went on to the Vincent Dickenson Road in Canelands KZN however the vehicle crashed into another vehicle.

The second vehicle that crashed into the Etios has been identified as red Zotye. Both vehicles overturned after the crash.

Firefighters reached the scene and the accident and rescued the two victims trapped in the wreckage of the Toyota Etios. They were using Jaws Of Life. The officials have shared that the vehicle was shot multiple times with 9mm pistols and high calibre weapons.

The driver of the Zotye vehicle was not injured. The paramedics stabalized the  wounded at the scene before they were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The officials have shared that they have not established any motive for the shooting.
