Zambia: The Police Force of the Itezhi-the district has received reports of a rape incident in the region of the Southern Province of the country. The victim has been identified as a 68-year-old woman from the Choongo Area. She reported the incident to the police officers on day after the incident happened.
The victim was a resident of the Itezhi-tezhi district and lived with her children. The victim has revealed that she was raped by a 32-year-old man in the same area on Sunday.
The victim, who identified herself as Grace Ngozo, reported the incident to Itezhi-tezhi Police on February 5, 2024. She also informed the police about the identity of the suspect, claiming that Musole Lyambula forcefully raped her the day before.
The victim confirmed that the incident happened around 19:00 hours at a local drinking place.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka has shared the details of the incident in a short statement. He explained that the victim was drinking beer with her friends and the suspect who was a son of one of her colleagues.
After some time, Ngozo got tired and she tried to leave but could not walk on her own after getting too drunk. The suspect is said to have offered to take her home and, on the way, he took her into a bush and forced himself on her.
The victim was intoxicated from alcohol which she consumed sometime back, which is why she could not defend herself. Meanwhile, the suspect allegedly fled after leaving the victim in the bush.
The Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Daka revealed that the victim’s children started looking for her after it got too late. The children found her sleeping naked in the bush and took her home.
Meanwhile the people of the country shared their disappointment over the incident. They condemned the suspect for his actions. Meanwhile, the officials have not yet made any arrests in the matter.
