The Zambia Weightlifting Federation is hosting a Level One Technical Coaching Course for coaches across Zambia. The Course is starting from Friday, December 8, 2023 and ends on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the OYDC Zambia Sports Development Centre.
The Level One Technical Coaching Course conducts various theoretical and practical sessions.
These sessions are being facilitated by Dr. Kyle Pierce, a member of the Coaching and Research Committee of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology & Health Science at Louisiana State University in Shreveport.
The Course has been funded through the Olympic Solidarity programme of Zambia and is supported by the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) Organisation. The Programme has attracted around 25 participants to the Course.
It has been organised as an initiative to educate and facilitate coaches through this extensive training programme. Through this Course, the participants can learn professional coaching training from these insightful sessions.
The Zambia Weightlifting Federation President, Gilbert Moono, is pleased and hopeful about this initiative. He stated that the Course comes at the right time, as the federation aims to improve its coaches’ qualifications, train new coaches, and bring female coaches on board. These goals align perfectly with their strategic objectives.
“Many clubs have opened up, but they are lacking qualified coaches despite having many athletes training,” he further said.
Reportedly, the Supported Organisation called The National Olympic Committee of Zambia is an administrative organisation of Zambia that conducts all the Olympic and Commonwealth Games in Africa.
The initiative is effectively supported by the OYDC Zambia, a Sports Development Centre that provides sports and community development options for young people athletes across Zambia. Besides facilitating sports, the OYDC also aims to provide a high-quality sports environment. This would provide, motivate and breed high-quality athletes and sports leaders.
