SAFE Kenya, A Non-Governmental and Charity Organisation, has recently launched the Herder’s Programme in Samburu County. The Programme focused on providing school youths with education and training on Sexual health, human/ child rights, and the environment.
The Herder’s Project is based on empowering the youth to become independent, aware, skilful and acknowledged to contribute their efforts to the nation’s sustainable development.
As per the Organisation, the school youth are among Samburu society’s most vulnerable members. This section of the Community requires special attention.
Boys often fail to finish school due to low attainment, drug and alcohol abuse, HIV status, lack of fees and the attraction of quick money as motorbike drivers. In comparison, Girls face issues such as early marriage, FGC, teenage pregnancy and the low value attributed to female education.
The SAFE Kenya team believes that the project is off to a good start. The participants are excited and keen to be involved in this initiative. Meanwhile, the Ngutuk Community has also requested that the project be replicated in their county.
Notably, the Organisation is consistent in their efforts to hold such programmes in some of the local counties of Kenya. These initiatives address and eradicate the local issues related to the nation’s poverty, health, education, employment and social discrimination.
SAFE Kenya, a non-governmental and charity-based organisation in Kenya, works to empower and educate the vulnerable sections of society by launching various programmes. The Organisation was established in 2001 at the height of the HIV Pandemic in Kenya. Today, it’s accessing all social and economic issues in the country.
The Organisation is keen to highlight these issues at the ground level with community-to-community interaction. It uses traditional and modern media as their equipment to get in touch with people. They use Street Theatre, films, community Programmes, and social media to deliver the message and inspire people to bring social change.
