Cape Town, South Africa: The City of Cape Town has conducted over 1200 events that were permitted officially.
As per the sources, the city has recorded nearly R4 Billion economic boost from the events organised in the year 2023.
Surprisingly, the twenty events hosted by Cape Town in 2023 developed over 26000 job opportunities for people in the greater events ecosystem that majorly included security, catering, production, logistics and transportation for locals.
From major international sporting events to top-tier music concerts, from cultural masterpieces to numerous lifestyle events, Cape Town covered it all in the previous year.
Last year, in 2023, the nation hosted Africa’s first Netball World Cup. They also hosted the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup along with the first Formula E race in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The country South Africa also observed Loeries Creative Week. The city of Cape Town saw the return of the annual carnival Tweede Nuwe Jaar Minstrel Street Parade and many more. 2023 has really been an amazing and prolific year for events in Cape Town.
Moreover, Cape Town has an exciting 2024 lined up with the greatest events. The Tweede Nuwe Jaar Minstrel Street has already kicked off the year. More events that the city will feature in 2023 are the SA20 Final at Newlands, the Cape Town Carnival, Africa Travel Week and Comic Con Cape Town.
The World Champion Springboks do battle is also around the corner, calling All Blacks at DHL Stadium in September 2024.
Reportedly, through the Events Support Process, the city supported more than 170 events and activities during the period.
According to the research studies, three key events celebrated in the city during this period highly impacted the economy. The event period revealed a substantial R2 Billion economic impact.
This holistic change in the economy has impacted directly and indirectly destination marketing among others.
The Member of the City’s Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith, expressed his gratitude towards the event organisers and said, “Event organisers have worked had over the last fifteen months with support from the Department of City Events.”
He added, “To get the events back in the direction we were headed before the pandemic. We would like to salute all involved for their hard work.”
