South Africa: The Premier of Free State MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae has extended support to the Senior and Deputy Traditional Leaders of the province. The organization The Premier of Free State was donating vehicles to the Traditional Leaders.

The Premier of Free State is accompanying MEC for Cooperative Governance, Traditional Affairs and Human Settlements Saki Mokoena. The officials have shared that the leadership has been dedicated to supporting the traditional leaders in smooth administrations of their respective jurisdiction.

The members of the community have been appreciative for the members of the administration’s support. The officials have shared that the vehicles will honour the success of the Traditional Authority.

MEC for Cooperative Governance, Traditional Affairs and Human Settlements Saki Mokoena and Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae will handover vehicles to recognised Senior and Deputy Traditional Leaders in the Free State. They highlighted that the donation was crucial to allow traditional leaders and traditional structures to perform their functions effectively and efficiently.

The officials have shared that it is important for the administration to have the resources that they needed to perform their responsibilities. The handover is done in accordance with the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Act, 2019 (Act No. 3 of 2019), and the Free State Traditional Leadership (Act No. 8 of 2005).

Furthermore, the handover is a pre-activation of the National Heritage Day Celebrations to be hosted in Ficksburg. Cogta recognizes the important role played by the traditional leaders and this programme ensures that they have the necessary resources to fulfil their mandates. These vehicles will enable them to reaching out and assist municipalities in identifying the needs of communities and promote indigenous knowledge systems for sustainable development and disaster management.

The handover is scheduled to take place on 24 September 2024 between the hours of 08:00 – 09:30 at the Setsoto Local Municipality. The officials have shared that the members of the community will be allowed to attend the handover.
