Zambia: Solwezi District Commissioner Tradeson Mulofwa, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to taking health services closer to the people. The health of children is an important part of the district health office mandate. The nation is getting ready to organize a week long celebration which will be themed around children’s welfare.
The district administration has started the preparation for the child health week and organized a stakeholder meeting for the same. The stakeholders’ meeting was held at the Provincial Health Office in preparation for the child health week exercise.
The district administration has confirmed that the week long lineup of activities scheduled for 23rd to 28th June, 2025.
Mulofwa addressed the other attendants of the stakeholder meeting. According to the Solwezi District Commissioner the campaign is an important intervention in accelerating progress in attaining Sustainable Development Goal number three (SDG3).
One of these Sustainable Development Goals is the reduction child mortality by 2030.
Mulofwa added that the exercise is in line with the government’s efforts to protect children against killer diseases and to also improve their health. The administration of Zambia has been organizing several immunizations drives and constructing healthcare facilities for the benefit of the people.
The development of the healthcare infrastructure of the country is also a part of the efforts being done to reduce child mortality. Families and guardians of young children are also being actively informed regarding the importance of regular health checkups for children’s health
He, however, said there is a need to reach remote places in several communities across the district. He reasoned that some of them are located far from health facilities and the families are not able to access healthcare in emergency situations.
He has urged the healthcare stakeholders to ensure that all the children in the district are captured.
Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) Officer, Benson Kayembe also spoke at the stakeholders meeting. He informed that in their efforts to bring healthcare to the children has reached 78,448 children.
This number is an improvement on the targeted 77,595, translating into 101 percent achievement last year.
