Dominica officially announces Roseau Christmas Village 2025 celebrations open in a special ceremony organised on Friday, Dec 19 at Lindo Park. The seventh edition of the festive will be commemorated under the theme ‘Believe’.
Local people and Cabinet officials gathered at the ceremony to celebrate what goes far beyond the twinkling lights and festive music. Melissa Poponne-Skerrit mentioned that the gathering involved the people who believe in hope, believe in community and above all, who believe in the miraculous story of Jesus Christ.
This is year’s theme has brought back the very foundation of Christmas. Melissa Skerrit stated that in mark 922, Jesus said that all things are possible to the one who believes. Christmas exists because of the powerful belief, the belief in the birth of our Savior – Jesus Christ, God’s greatest act of love towards humanity.
The line up of celebration series feature events such as the Magic of Christmas Kids Party, Netflix & Munch, Gospel Concert, Govt. Band Christmas Concert, Believe & Shine Talent Show, Holiday Karoke, Shopping Day, Merry Christmas, Live Band Melodies, Holiday SIP and Paint. Followed by Light & Believe Ceremony, Jazz in the Village, New Year’s Eve Ring into 2026 and the final Happy New Year celebration on Jan 01.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said that this is a splendid event for families to come together and to enjoy the spirit of Christmas as this is really the time about family. He added that the joy of Christmas festival is coming to the event and see so many children and families walking together and enjoying what Dominica has to offer in this Christmas Village. He highlighted that it gets successful every year as they have so many small business owners who are showcasing their talent on display and have benefitted from the tremendous sales that they explore every night.
Furthermore, the event highlighted opportunities for small businesses, youth entrepreneurship through the ‘Young Bosses’ initiative, and financial literacy development. PM Skerrit expressed his gratitude to corporate partners, including the Chinese Embassy and DOWASCO for providing free electricity and for supporting the initiative.
Along with this, the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) reaffirmed its long-standing tradition of distributing toys and food items to families nationwide during Christmas. Prime Minister Skerrit also confirmed that the citizens of Dominica holds valid U.S. visas and may continue travelling beyond January 01, 2026 following successful engagement with U.S. authorities.
PM Skerrit said that they bring Christmas cheer to the country. While there are so many challenges in this world, in Dominica they can remain peacefully, there can be unity, there can be love and there can be giving. “And I’m so happy to be part of this party that continues to recognise it has a role in bringing cheer and joy to especially the children of Dominica,” said Dr. Skerrit.
Melissa Poponne-Skerrit was also joined the opening ceremony and said that this is the seventh edition of the Christmas Village in Roseau, which is being celebrated under the theme ‘Believe’, celebrating faith, community and the true meaning of Christmas.
According to her, the event highlights youth participation, featuring young performers and a ‘Young Bosses’ holiday market showcasing child entrepreneurs. She highlighted that with over 60 vendors; the village supports small businesses and local economic growth.
Partnerships with the Dominica Tourism Authority allowed cruise visitors to experience the Dominican Christmas traditions. With free night entertainment, cultural performances and family-friendly activities that ensures inclusivity. The organisers acknowledged government, corporate and community partners for their support, by reaffirming the village’s role in fostering unity, opportunity and national pride.
